Its so stupid easy to happen, even when someone thinks they have it under control. You brought in your personal anecdote so because of your use of the word "generally" I thought you maybe would see my point if I clarified in a slightly more personal way to perhaps make my point more understandable.Īgain wishing you all the best in general and in recovery!īy falling too far into it I mean starting off using occasionally/recreationally while maintaining a productive lifestyle but eventually building up a tolerance (which is really easy to do) to the point where you end up using higher doses more often and your body starts needing it just to function and not deal with the harsh symptoms of withdraw. This is a general statement that applies to a lot of situations. I am glad to chat and hear about personal experiences but I dislike them being phrasred as if that personal anecdote is rule. I am wondering only if people have arguments against their use of drugs. That's probably easier for them to believe than the truth: a lot of people absolutely suck.Īll I am saying is that there are addicts who do not lie or steal or treat their loved ones or general living beings poorly. There is a reason the ill informed believe heroin makes people suck. I know very darn well there are opiate addicts that are terrible people. I know that's easy for mommy to believe because her angel would never hurt her on purpose (obvious denial). Some people say the drugs made them do all this terrible stuff. I have known a lot of horrible, horrible people. Most people don't become dependent on that medication because they were fine before. It's referred to as self medication for a reason. At some point everyone either claims personal responsibility, or they never do. Maybe if he hadn't been, he'd be.better? For lack of a.better.word. We know he was all kinds of abused and molested. It's not because he is sick, afflicted with addiction. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He is also a untrustworthy human who uses everyone and everything. Only inspired by because it is so rare to see even a temporarily somewhat functioning opiate addict on TV.įrank is an addict. Again, this post was inspired by but is absolutely NOT about Sean. Debs was never going to get an abortion, nor was motherhood going to be a smooth ride. Fiona was not going to get her happily-ever-after with an addict. Dropped in the same punishing environment, could you really say that you wouldn’t make the same choices? Let he who has never gotten in their own way cast the first stone, right? And while I certainly can’t praise the show as a flawless depiction of our collective, flayed-open id - there are a number of dropped story lines and seemingly out-of-character choices that give me pause - I have to give the show credit for not taking the easy way out. Maybe it’s my own projecting, but I’ve always felt Shameless to be particularly painful for how it reflects the worst parts of ourselves.
